Frequently Asked Questions?

What is a barcode?

A barcode is a unique number that is used in the retail trade to make the sale of products easy and to follow and automate. You also need a barcode for streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music to upload your single, EP or album.

Will I receive my barcode immediately?

Yes, you will receive the 13 digit unique EAN13 barcode immediately after payment, complete with a graphic file (in a high resolution) that you can add in the design of (the packaging of) your product or for digitally uploading your music.

How many barcodes do I need?

The number of barcodes depends on the number of products. You need a separate barcode for each product. For example, if you have two different CDs and one DVD, you need three barcodes. If you want an EP with five tracks to be placed on Spotify, you need one barcode for this. If you want to upload two singles with a separate cover to Spotify, you need two different barcodes.

How quickly will I receive my barcode?

After payment you will immediately receive your barcode (s).

Does my barcode contain price information?

No, the barcode is only a unique number and contains no information about the product or the price; price information can be linked to this, but is therefore not included in the barcode.

What is an ISRC code?

The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is an international identification system for sound recordings and music videos. It is a kind of identification code of a song so that people – regardless of organization (from radio to rights organizations) – know where to go. Imagine that the track is being played and you want to know who this belongs to, then you can find out who to contact by reading out the ISRC code. More information about ISRC codes can be found on Wikipedia, for example.

How many ISRC codes do I need?

The ISRC code is linked to the recording itself and not to its physical form (the same recording that is released on both CD and Spotify has one and the same ISRC). For every unique track that you put on a CD and, for example, also place on Spotify, you need a code. Example: for an EP with five numbers, you therefore need five ISRC codes.

Will my CD or DVD be automatically visible in web stores if I have a barcode on it?

No, for this it is necessary that your distributor – together with price and, for example, cover information or sound clips – is registered by your distributor with relevant parties.

Can I also use my barcode if I register a track on Spotify or iTunes?

Yes, download and streaming portals always require a barcode when uploading music. This is used for, among other things, registration for the charts. For this you can enter the unique barcode supplied by us.

Where can I upload my music for free?

There are several international “digital service providers”. With most you actually always have to pay a substantial start-up rate. For quick and free uploading of your music to Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer you can go to www.traxfree.com

I want a barcode for products other than music?

For this we refer you to GS1. You can also order a barcode directly at www.makeabarcode.org
